Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston Engaged Without Sarah Palin's Knowledge

According to a report in Us Weekly, Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston have patched things up and decided to go ahead and get married -- with former Alaska governor Sarah Palin's knowledge. Apparently the two, while deciding what was best for their son, Tripp, in custody negotiations three months ago, also decided to complete their marriage plans that were nixed when Levi Johnston supposedly got cold feet. They haven't set a date, but true to her abstinence-speechifying ways and despite already having his child, Bristol Palin has decided to make Levi Johnston wait until their wedding night before they try for child number two.

Which gives Kathy Griffin time to work her D-list magic on the former cold-footed fiance.

The revelation comes as an exclusive in Us Weekly. "We got engaged two weeks ago," Bristol told the celebrity gossip magazine. "It felt right, even though we don't have the approval of our parents.

Bristol Palin told the magazine that she hoped her mother would "jump on board."

Sarah Palin, once she heard about the engagement, ! issued a statement through NBC's "Today Show," which is kind of strange, since she's a contributor to Fox News. "Bristol at 19 is now a young adult. We obviously want what's best for our children.

"Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives."

The last line seems to be code for: Bristol can forgive him all she wants, but Mama Grizzly is still "struggling" about putting into practice any kind of "forgiveness" toward someone who trashed her (Sarah Palin's) reputation after he broke off the first engagement with Bristol Palin. That occurred after Levi Johnston, who seemed to have been cornered into the role of fiance by Sarah Palin and her Republican handlers when she ran alongside Senator John McCain (R-AZ) for the presidency in 2008, played his part well after new candidate Palin found out her then 17-year-old daughter was pregnant, setting a new Jerry Springer standard for campaigns for the pro-family and uber-moralistic GOP. Soon after Sarah Palin and John McCain lost the election, though, Levi Johnston broke up with Bristol and began doing magazine and television interviews that were rather unflattering toward the former governor of Alaska.

Levi Johnston said in an interview that Palin was a controlling person and that she once called her son, Trig, who has Down Syndrome, "retarded." Sarah Palin derisively called Johnston "Ricky Hollywood" on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and said that his spread in Playgirl magazine was "heartbreaking." She said he would "say and do anything for attention."

When asked about the Playgirl spread, Bristol said she had not seen it but that was part of Levi's former life. As in five months ago, when the spread appeared?

Thanksgiving is going to be a treat at the Palin household this year. They should consider making it into a reality show event for the Fox News Channel. Then again, perhaps they shouldn't. Wouldn't want to ruin Fox News' reputation for being unfair and unbalanced.
