Sarah Palin's debate advice for Paul Ryan
The one and only vice presidential debate is Thursday night at Center College in Danville, Kentucky. It's the first time Vice President Joe Biden and Congressman Paul Ryan will debate face to face.
There's a lot of pressure on Vice President Biden. President Obama has seen his poll numbers slipping in the wake last week's debate with Mitt Romney.
There is one person who knows first hand what it's like to go head to head with Joe Biden in a vice presidential debate.
Sarah Palin was in Scottsdale today talking to FOX about her experience 4 years ago.
Joe Biden is known for his grasp of policies but he also prone to gaffes. Sarah Palin was a newcomer to national politics back then. Her advice to Paul Ryan: be yourself.
Four years ago Sarah Palin went head to head with then candidate Joe Biden. Back then, she claims, she tried to call Biden out for changing his stance on certain policies while campaigning with the president.
Today she urged Paul Ryan to do the same.
"I hope that Paul Ryan gets to coax that out of him, because it's very important for the electorate to understand how politicians can change their minds, their policies, their principles, their foundational substance so quickly. And it's changed on a dime according to politics, not principle," says Palin.
Back in 2008, Palin's style was praised by many conservatives. Palin and Biden stood at a podium, but Thursday Ryan and the vice president will sit at a table shaped like a half moon.
There won't be any opening statements. Biden will get the first question, but Ryan will get the last word in his closing statement.
"At the end of the day though, that VP debater has just got to be themselves. They have to stand on their own record, and what it is that they would propose in cooperation with the top of the ticket -- the presidential nominee. And, just tell the truth. And that is what Americans are going to crave tonight."
Unlike last week's pres! idential debate which focused on domestic issues, the vice presidential debate will not a have a narrow focus.
They will be discussing foreign and domestic topics.
