Letterman: I Apologized To Sarah Palin And Her Daughter So I Could Continue To Make Fun Of Her
David Letterman sat down with Oprah Winfrey Sunday night and discussed everything from Paris Hilton to Sarah Palin. In the interview, Winfrey asked Letterman about the apology he made to Palin for a joke about her then 14-year-old daughter Willow. Lettermen said he apologized because he wanted to continue to make fun of the elder Palin and if he didnt sincerely express his regret, he would not be able to go forward making fun of her.

Letterman made a sex joke about Palins daughter after she was photographed attending a baseball game with her mother. Letterman said that he thought it was Palins older daughter, Bristol, at the game, who made headlines for becoming pregnant at 17. After he realized his mistake, Letterman said he truly felt bad ! for the 14-year-old and thought to himself, Nice going, you got the wrong daughter. It was a stupid joke that fell into dumb luck and got worse, he added.
Winfrey asked if it bothers Letterman when he has hurt someones feelings with a joke. He responded that it does and said he has called people to apologize many times.
