KALAMAZOO -- Two top aides to John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign have been making the rounds of talk shows in the past two weeks to talk about Sarah Palin's unsuitability as a vice presidential candidate.

The aides -- Steve Schmidt and Nicholle Wallace, both of whom worked closely with Palin during that campaign -- have been giving the interviews to vouch for the accuracy of "Game Change," an HBO movie that details Palin's strengths and weaknesses as a candidate.

A column on mlive.com, headlined "Going rogue: Former members of McCain campaign let honesty trump loyalty as they reveal lessons of 2008 election," lauds Schmidt and Wallace as "heroes" for talking about how ambition to win made them pick a candidate they now see as fundamentally unfit for the presidency.

Some online commenters were highly critical of the column, defending Palin and saying that Barack Obama and Joe Biden are the incompetent ones.

Wrote azovoice:

When will we hear liberal "journalists" write stories about how much of dunce Joe Biden truly is. He is a clown, an ignorant, elitist, buffoon--in the worst possible way. A perfect example of the Peter Principle--where one rises to their level of incompetence.

Will there be movies made about how Obama being in way over his head ("above his pay grade"--to use his excuse for not knowing when life begins in a womb). Obama was the most inexperienced hack every elected to the office. Like Palin, he had charisma and charm--but Obama lacked real-world experience, any knowledge of how capitalism worked. He only knew his socialist ideology, le! arned in the lecture halls of radical professors, and in the streets while "community organizing".

Agreed Dukesuncle: "Is (the columnist) unaware that Joe Biden is the VP? And for the first two Obama years, Nancy Pelosi was next in line to Joe? (At least Sarah knows there aren't 57 States)."

Responded Hank: "I am truly amazed at many of the responses on this forum. They are so rapped up on Obama smashing that they refuse to acknowledge the obvious. The major point as I see it is that this was much like buying a plane ticket and climbing on the plane to find a 72 year old pilot and a copilot who knows next to nothing about flying the plane. What has happened to 'common sense' in this country?"

Others agreed that Palin was a weak candidate.

"McCain finally got an opportunity to become President and his decision to invite Sarah Palin along was a disaster," wrote landow. "I had to change my vote because he sold himself out. Now, that same political party has nothing to offer once again."

"Given the facts as stated by the GOP operatives, who were true insiders (and leaders) of McCain's campaign, the only thing I find amazing is that the two individuals commenting above are still defending Palin," wrote railroadbilly. "She lacked the competency to be put in such a responsible position."

Was Sarah Palin qualified to be on the 2008 Republican presidential ticket?
