Attention-Craving Sarah Palin Fooling Her Supporters

COMMENTARY | Sarah Palin just can't stand being ignored. On Monday night, the former governor of Alaska told Eric Bolling on the Fox Business Network, "It's not too late for folks to jump in," hinting to her supporters that there is still a chance she might run for president. She also voiced her strong support of the Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow trying to take a ride on his 15 minutes of fame.

Palin obviously doesn't know a lot about football, or the good-natured ribbing that fans of opposing teams like to give each other. She inferred that the skit about the Broncos and Tebow on "Saturday Night Live" this past weekend was all about atheists who are jealous of the quarterback's faith and in her nasally voice commented, "Jesus will rock your world if you just give it a try!"

The bigger story is that the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee is still teasing her supporters with the hope that she will run, keeping them dangling on a thread. As soon as her 15 minutes started to fade, she seemed to be compelled not to lose the attention.

After dancing back and forth all summer, she finally announced her official decision in October. She broke the news to conservative talk show host Mark Levin and in a letter to her supporters that stated she felt she would be "more effective in a decisive role to help elect other true public servants to office - from the nation's governors to congressional seats and the presidency," according to the Los Angeles Times.

According to the Associated Press, over the past weekend Palin said, "She felt no enthusiasm for anyone in the current field of Republican candidates and that she needed to feel something before endorsing one of them."

Wait a minute. Just a few months ago, according to the New York Times , the former Beauty Queen said, "I'm happy with the field of candidates... I think that there's room for more, though, because a spirited debate and more competition will allow for an even better discourse and a more rigorous discourse that the public deserves."

Palin made this statement the month before she officially decided not to run. But, wait! Maybe if she says she doesn't support any of the GOP candidates she can hold on to her time in the spotlight just a little bit longer.

In a recent ad shown in Iowa, Palin commented , "The challenge is not simply to replace Obama in 2012. The real challenge is who and what we will replace him with."

Yet apparently, according to the Alaskan herself, none of the current republican presidential candidates are good enough for her to endorse.

If you're left a little baffled by this, it's not surprising. I've rarely heard many sentences out of Palin's mouth that make a lot of sense, but it's obvious that she just can't let go of the media attention or to her handful of supporters that she likes to keep around "just in case."

It's time to let go, Sarah. Go back to filming your outdoor adventures in Alaska and stop leading those poor people on.
