Sarah Palin: Establishment Rewrote 'False Narrative' About Gingrich's Relationship With Reagan

In what has become a common occurrence, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) took to Fox News Monday evening to defend GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich from a flurry of attacks launched by fellow Republicans last week.

The anti-Gingrich assault was centered upon what his detractors claim was his misrepresentation of his relationship with former President Ronald Reagan and the broader "Reagan Revolution." A number of conservative columnists suggested that Gingrich lacked the character and discipline to be defined as a conservative in Reagan's vein. Others wrote that he had, at times, even opposed Reagan directly.

On Monday, Palin said these allegations were fabricated and entirely false.

"Enough was enough when I started seeing this rewritten history about Newt Gingrich's relationship with Ronald Reagan and the Reagan revolution in the '70s and in the '80s. How he, under Reagan and Reagan's advisers -- their tutelage -- how it was able to help shape Newt Gingrich and his ideas on how to balance the budget and how to reform welfare," she told Fox News' Sean Hannity. "When I saw that rewritten by some in the establishment, I said, for what it's worth, I'm going to voice my opposition to that false narrative being rewritten."

Palin then went on in an attempt to dispel the emerging trend that she is supporting only Gingrich, saying that she would "continue to say good things about every GOP candidate, because anybody's gonna be better than O! bama."

As GOP12 points out, Palin even mustered some praise for Mitt Romney, who would appear to serve as the clearest Republican opponent in what she perceives as an ideological battle between the GOP establishment and its more-conservative wing.

"I respect Mitt Romney's success," Palin said. "He's got kind of that lineage within his family of success and politics, things that worked in the past that allowed his dad to be successful. He's learned from that, and I think that is to be admired. As is Mitt Romney, obviously, a good family man in my eyes -- I respect that."

Mitt Romney's father, George Romney, served as governor of Michigan and ran for the GOP presidential nomination in 1964.
